Day at the Sisters of Life

+JMJ
Feastday of Blessed Antonio Lucci

Hey all! On Saturday I went one of the Sisters of Life convents and did a day of service with them. They have them about once a month so that volunteers can come in and help them. They're usually so busy with the mothers and babies that that don't have time for more mundane things. Anyway, I got there at 10 and met some of the other volunteers. They seemed really nice and cool. I was assigned with another woman to the kitchen, cleaning out the cabinets. There were some pretty funny moments in there....first, I found a little bottle of amaretto and was like hmmmm okay... the other woman I was working with said that it was probably given as a gift or something. It just made me laugh. Then I found some silly string with a note that said "for Mother's use only, when things get a little out of control" Seriously, I just cracked up at that!

We had mid-day prayers and then lunch which was really nice in their outdoor garden. It was nice to just talk to the Sisters. Sr. Mary was telling us how she was planning her wedding and the went to Medjugorie and came back with a vocation! It was just crazy! After lunch I went down to the storeroom and sorted some things. The storeroom is where they have baby clothes, toys, blankets and lots more. Every mother that stays with them gets everything they need when they move out. It's really amazing. When people were going home Sr. Mary invited me to dinner because I'm discerning and the Sisters wanted to talk to me. It was a really nice dinner and it was nice to feel like one of them. After dinner I helped clean up and was going to head home, when Sr. Mary Clare invited me to stay and see a movie. I said yea and I went to the community room with her. It was a really good movie about a priest and his conversion. He's now the director of the National Divine Mercy Shrine. really cool! Then I left for home at 9ish and was so sad to leave :(

Oh and in other good news, I'm going to visit the Dominican Nuns of Summit NJ tomorrow! I am sooo excited! I just called them last week and Sr. Mary Catherine said that it would be good to come for the day because I'm so close. To be honest, I'm scared because this is the first contemplative community I'm visiting. What if I find I'm called to the contemplative life? My family would KILL me....anyway, I'm leaving this one up to God because He's the only one who knows what's best for me.
