Off to the Emerald Isle!

+JMJ
Feastday of St. Louis Mary de Montfort

So, in about six hours I leave with two of my friends to go to Ireland! We're going to Dublin and Galway and I am super psyched! Because my friends are going to stay in Galway a day ahead of me, I get to roam around Dublin on my own! Not to say that I'm not a people person, but I was hoping to get to some different sights, coughconventscough! I'm hoping to visit a Carmelite convent or the Poor Clares. I just need to be around nuns!!

Speaking of....I got an email from the Sister Servants of the Sacred Heart ! I emailed them a while ago, but didn't get a response. It turns out that the sisters had shut down that account. So don't use the email addy on their website, if you want it, you can email me and I'll give it to ya :)

I probably won't be updating until I get back on Sunday, so have a great week everyone!

Five more weeks.....

+JMJ
Feastday of St. Mark

As the title says, I've only got five more weeks until I go home. It's kind of a bittersweet feeling right now. On one hand I really love Scotland and the university but on the other I'm sooo excited to see my friends and visit some convents this summer. In the present, I'm going to Ireland on Wednesday!! Two friends and I are going to Dublin and Galway for five days and I am mucho excited!!

After I get back from Ireland, I have two days and then it's off to Prague with my flatmate Tracy! Do you know what that means??? I get to see the original Infant Jesus of Prague! I am such a Catholic dork, but it's okay :) After my crazy travels, I have a week of studying and then a my three finals (boo!). When all that is over, I have about a week left before I fly home on May 29th. I've written to the nuns of Tyburn Convent to see if I can stay with them for a couple of days that week. Seriously, how cool would that be?!

My summer nun-run seems to be coming together quite nicely, I'm definitely visiting the Apostles of the Sacred Heart and the Brooklyn Visitation Sisters. I won't get to visit the SMMEs for their professions, but oh well!

That's all for now!

HABEMUS PAPAM!

+JMJ
Feastday of Blessed Luchesio and Buonadonna

Yes, Virginia we have a Pope! Joseph Ratzinger was elected and assumed the name Benedict XVI! I was in the computer lab when Janessa squeeled "They've elected a Pope, I just got a text!" It was priceless. Then I went to the Vactican and Yahoo news but they didn't have the name yet. I waited around for a bit and then I heard. I honestly don't know too much about our new Pope, but hopefully he will lead God's people well! I bet the folks over at the Ratzinger fan club are throwing a HUGE par-tay right about now....LOL!

Feastday of St. Teresa of Los Andes (1900-1920)

Hey Everyone! So, these past couple week have been very exciting for me =) Last Thursday I sent out a slew of emails to different communities because I was getting frustrated waiting to be home to communicate with them. This weekend I got responses from the Visitation Sisters and the Apostles of the Sacred Heart! Both of them invited me to their convents this summer to find out about the life. Oh I was sooo happy! I also asked them a lot a questions about their communities. Sr. Colleen of the Apostles wrote back to me and told me that they get 10 visiting days in the summer and you can write to your family once a week. She also told me that there is a good chance I'll get to teach high school because they run 4 of them. woohoo!

Today, Sr.Anunciata of the SMMEs got back to me and invited me to the May retreat. I was really bummed because I don't get back until the 29th of May. Then she said...."You might need to come to one of the Profession ceremonies going on this summer so that you can meet some of the sisters." yippee! I was on cloud 9, people! Not only would I get to meet the sisters, but to see a profession,oh so cool. Now the only thing is coming up with plane fare and getting permission from the parents. Money shouldn't be too bad, I've seen roundtrip flights for $90. The parents might be another story. I think with me visiting all these convents, it's going be hard but I know God will help them through it.

HA! Just as I was typing, I got an email from one of the Religious Sisters of Mercy, Alma! GOD IS SO GOOD! ::jumps around:: okay I'm gonna go reply to her and be happy about my vocation. Until next time!

    Good-Bye and God Speed Papa!

    +JMJ

Last night when Mom and I got back to our hotel, we turned on Sky News and saw that the Pope had died. Italy is only one hour ahead of Scotland,so we knew pretty soon after the fact. We had been watching the news the past few days and seeing the Masses from all over the world. It was just amazing how the Church came together to say good-bye. I brought with me my Rosary that I got in 2000 when my Mom, Grandma, Aunt and I went to Itlay. It was a special Rosary for the Jubilee year, and was blessed by the Pope. Saying the Rosary this morning had so much extra meaning for me. I looked to see what Mysteries were for today and how appropriate that it was the Glorious ones. Our Holy Father has been gloriously taken into Heaven to be with God.

I also thought of something that my Grandmother once told me; after her son had died at 22 from cancer, the priest who gave Last Rites said "now you don't pray for him, you pray to him." Knowing that Papa is looking out for us all is very comforting to me.

Here are the remarks that Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O'Connor said yesterday:

"We have lost a great leader of our modern world. John Paul II was an extraordinary man, one of the greatest popes in the Church’s 2,000-year history. We will remember him for his tireless witness to hope, to freedom, and to the dignity of human life. We will remember him for his courage in reaching across the boundaries of race, religion and ideology; we will remember him for his energy, as well as for his courageous endurance of physical suffering right until the end. John Paul II was always conscious of the drama of human salvation; he reminded us, tirelessly, of our eternal destiny. He showed, in his own life, how human beings are at their greatest and most free when they are most obedient to God’s will. His was a light that burned most strongly wherever the darkness was deepest. The Church will miss him. The world will miss him. I will miss him."

    Hail Mary in Polish

    Zdrowaś Maryjo, łaski pełna,
    Pan z Tobą,
    błogosławionaś Ty między niewiastami
i błogosławiony owoc żywota Twojego, Jezus.
    Święta Maryjo, Matko Boża,
    módl się za nami grzesznymi
teraz i w godzinę śmierci naszej.
    Amen.

Pope John Paul II, Requiescat in Pace.
